"Neighbors Helping Neighbors"
The Little Silver Fire Company #1 is an all volunteer
department and we are always in need of new members to fill our
ranks. Volunteering to help your community is very rewarding. There
are many types of membership in which residents can help our
organization:
Active Membership:
Active members are the firefighters who respond to emergency calls
& fire alarms within the borough. Firefighter training is provided at
no cost & is easy to incorporate into even a busy schedule. Training
takes place at the Monmouth County Fire Academy in Howell & new
members can choose to attend on either Saturday or Sunday for 12
weeks. Upon graduation, members become NJ State certified
firefighters, as well as certified to provide basic first aid & CPR.
Training is ongoing throughout a firefighter's entire career with
drills & classes occurring monthly to update skills & advance our
capability to protect our residents.
To become a firefighter, contact the LSFD Fire Chief at
848-207-7220 or stop by the Fire House on Prospect Ave any Monday
night between 7pm & 9pm.
Social Membership:
Social members are vital to our organization, with
all the benefits of membership as an Active member, without the
firefighter training or requirements. Social members help run the
business side of our organization, such as fundraising, annual events
such as the Halloween parade & our awards banquet. Many social
members hold offices within the Fire Company. Social members can hold
any position within the company except those pertaining to
firefighting.
To become a social member, you can download the
social membership application
HERE. Simply follow the instructions & drop the application off
at the Fire House on any Monday night between 7pm & 9pm.
Cadet Membership:
Fire cadets are an essential part of the fire company. From
helping on engineer's night to assisting on fire calls, cadets learn
many skills that are needed to become a firefighter. On the fire
scene, cadets are closely supervised and perform tasks such as
changing air cylinders and setting up tools away from hazardous
environments. Many cadets that have gone through the program have
moved on to become firefighters. Anyone aging from 14-18 that is
interested in becoming a fire cadet, please stop by the firehouse any
Monday night between 7pm & 9 pm.
Fire Police:
The
Little Silver Fire Police is a very important part of the fire
company. They operate at all emergency scenes and control the traffic
flow and the crowd. These members allow firefighters to operate
safely on fire scenes without the worry of traffic or large crowds
getting in the way.
If you are
interested in joining any position but not sure how to start, stop by
the firehouse on Prospect Avenue any Monday night between 7pm & 9pm.
Members will be there to show you around and lead you in the right
direction!
