Surprise Storm keeps Borough
Firefighters Busy
27JULY08- As storms began to hit
Monmouth County, Station 23-1 began receiving multiple fire
calls due to the storm. At 1210 hrs fire crews were dispatched
to a commercial fire alarm at Red Bank Regional High School
While responding to the alarm crews were re routed to a dwelling
on Harding RD that was struck by lightning. Fair Haven FD
was dispatched to handle the alarm call. Chief Gibson & Chief
Salerno responded to Harding Rd & confirmed house struck by
lightning with severe damage to the chimney area on the roof.
Engine 2377 & Engine 2375 responded following were Engine 2376 &
Rescue 2386. Chief Gibson requested Rumson Truck 42-2-90 to
respond for ladder assignment to gain access to the roof.
LSFD crews checked the interior with negative results. Crews
determined there was no fire and cleared the scene after the
roof was checked by Rumson FD. Two crews stood by at the
firehouse for approx. 4 hours and waited for storms to pass
through the area. Crews continued to answer multiple fire alarms
throughout the day .

On
July 23th, members of the Little Silver Fire Department attended
the Monmouth County Firefighter's Field Day Competition.

Members Participate in SCUBA
Training
Members of the Little Silver Fire Department spent the day in
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania practicing their skills as rescue divers.

Gas Leak Shuts Down Busy
Road
19JULY08- At 0957 hrs, Station 23-1 was dispatched to a
residence on Kings Rd for a reported Gas Leak. Chief Gibson &
Chief Salerno responded in and advised all units of an active
gas leak on the "B" (left side) of the house. Engine 2377
responded in first due. Crews advanced 1 3/4 line to cover the
scene. Crews evacuated the area residents for a brief period of
time. Engine 2375 and Engine 2376 stood by at area
hydrants. NJNG responded to the scene and secured gas line.
Station 23-1's crew of 16 was on scene for about 40 minutes
.

Rescue Assignment
03JULY08- At 10:18 am, Squad 23-21 was
dispatched to Markham Place School for a construction worker with
a severe hand laceration. The assignment was quickly
upgraded to a rescue assignment bringing Station 23-1 to the
scene. Due to the patient being located on the roof, Chief
Gibson requested mutual aid for Shrewsbury FD's Truck.
Engine 2375, Rescue 2386, EMS 2357 responded to the scene.
Little Silver Firefighters/EMTs gained access to the roof from a
ground ladder and stabilized the patient while awaiting the
arrival of 4590. The tower ladder lowered the patient for
EMS to assess and treat. The patient was transported by Little
Silver EMS in stable condition to Riverview ER. All Units Cleared
the scene at approx. 10:50 am.

Pump Training
30JUNE08- Members of the LSFD practiced their pumping skills and
trained some of the newer members on different pumping techniques.
Firefighter MacDonald's new puppy, Hydrant, had some training on the handline.

Busy Night in the Borough
14JUNE08: A severe thunderstorm that swept through the area kept
LSFD crews very busy for the night. Two severe storms
collided into each other as they entered Monmouth County around
7:30 PM. The storms produced heavy rain, damaging winds,
and dangerous lightning. Station 23-1 answered 10 calls in
4 hours ranging from alarm activations, wires arching
and electrical fires. Crews Stood by at the firehouse until
midnight when storms finally cleared the area. Little Silver
Fire Police were also out directing traffic for hours due to
traffic lights being out because of area power outages.

Scared Straight Drill at RBR
02JUNE08- The Little Silver Fire Department along with
Shrewsbury Fire, LSEMS, and LSPD demonstrated a mock car accident
for RBR Seniors to watch and learn from. Part of Project
Prom, students got a little taste of what happens as a result of

Early Morning Fire in the
Borough
30APRIL08- At 0356 hrs, Station 23-1 was dispatched to a residence
on Rumson Place for a reported structure fire with flames visible
from second floor. Chief Salerno was first one scene and
established fire command and requested Oceanport FD for RIT,
Shrewsbury FD for a truck, and one engine from Red Bank FD for
primary back-up. Command advised negative entrapment, heavy
smoke showing on second floor. Engine 23-77 responded in
first due and dropped a supply line at the hydrant. Crews
from E-77 advanced an 1' 3/4 line through the front door to the
second flood of the structure. Firefighters Bruno, MacDonald, and
LT. Giblin gained access to the second floor hallway finding a
heavy smoke condition and an extreme amount of heat. As the
interior crew advanced they located a bedroom on the A/B corner of
the structure. Crews gained entry and contained the fire to
the bedroom. Overhaul was completed to check for extension.
Engine 23-75 responded as a supply engine and stood by at the
hydrant. Rescue 23-86 responded for scene lighting and for
an air unit. One burn victim patient was transported to the
hospital by LSEMS. Monmouth County Fire Marshalls Office
responded to conduct the fire investigation. Crews cleared
the scene at approx. 0530 hrs.
